Spring Break 2009 - The Ride Down

By: Adam Koehler April 1, 2009

Sixteen people from the waterski & wakeboard team decided to devote their spring break to skiing away the cob webs of winter in combination with spending a whole week with their friends on the team. One would fly and fifteen would travel via two vans to Bennett's Waterski School in Zachary, LA. The following team members who embarked on this trip:

Liz Agnes, Erica Bleier, Dusty Bodine, Dave DeDonato, Kyle Flakne, J.J. Foley, Jose Gonzalez, Adam Koehler, Kelly Kotarek, Jes Laing, Mike Laing, Kate Pauly, Emily Pier, Laura Sampson, Michelle Thompson and Patric Tuuk

Here's how the trip started according to Liz:

The vans were packed and 13 of the spring breakers got in the vans, ready to get their spring breaks started. One van consisted of the older, calmer skiers who slept and played twenty questions while the other consisted of the younger, louder skiers who danced and sang to Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and Moulin Rouge. Everyone was very excited for an entire week of skiing at Bennett's. The vans picked up Dusty at the Des Plaines Oasis and kept on their way. There were many games of "would you rather", "twenty questions", and questions about everyone's lives and futures.

At one point van 53 heard loud noises coming from the van. They didn't know if it was from the wheels, engine, or roof. Come to find the seal of the front windshield came undone. After a quick tape job, the sound went away...for about 5 minutes. Then fearing JJ, nobody wanted to stop to check it out so they drove for another hour through irritatingly loud flapping noises. Then Dusty came to the rescue at the next stop and the van finally got some peace and quiet. They continued driving until they reached Adam in Tennessee.

....

The long arduous drive ended at 18 hours. And so after a long day for everyone that was measured from an evening to an early afternoon the next day, the sixteen team members were ready to start Spring Break... ready to ski.
